SMMC Coronavirus Preparedness
March 09, 2020
Steele Memorial Medical Center and the Steele Memorial Foundation are very pleased to inform the community of an anonymous donation made to ensure our preparedness for a potential coronavirus outbreak in Salmon or the surrounding areas. Jeanie Gentry, CEO worked swiftly with department directors and administration to evaluate our supplies and ability to respond to a threat. Staff reviewed needs and presented the donor with a list of materials and supplies needed to ensure we can handle and care for infected patients. The generous $100,000 donation will go towards the purchase of additional supplies and equipment needed to assist staff in the case of an outbreak or emergency.
Please be assured that Steele Memorial is taking every additional measure necessary to guarantee we can care for this community. SMMC is diligently working on staying apprised of ongoing updates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). At this time, we are working on continuous staff education and training so that in the event the facility is affected, we will be able to safely care for our patients.
If any person feels that they have been exposed AND have a fever, new cough, or new shortness of breath; we ask that you contact the Department of Health and Welfare at 208-533-3152 or call SMMC 208-756-6212 first. Specific instructions will be provided to prevent spread to others and unnecessary contamination in other areas of the facility.
Starting now, all patients/visitors will be stopped upon entry into the facility and screened before being allowed to proceed further.
Our staff is on high alert and complying with all regulatory direction. If we are fortunate to escape an outbreak, we will be prepared for any other potential threat that could affect our community.
Steele Memorial Medical Center and its Foundation are truly grateful for all of our donors. You make a direct impact on the compassionate care we provide. We are extremely grateful for the generosity of this donor and heartfelt concern for Steele Memorial and our community.
