Becker's Hospital Review Names 67 Critical Access Hospitals to Know
Becker's Hospital Review recently named Steele Memorial Medical Center as one of the 67 Critical Access Hospitals to Know.
“This is a great honor,” stated Jeanie Gentry, SMMC CEO. “It means we are one of the best hospitals in the country which is wonderful because our community deserves the very best care possible.”
Critical access hospitals have 25 or fewer inpatient beds, and the annual average length of stay is 96 hours or fewer for acute care. These hospitals also offer 24/7 emergency care and are located in remote areas. There are approximately 1300 of these types of hospitals throughout the country.
Becker's Healthcare editors selected the following hospitals based on awards and rankings from respected healthcare organizations including iVantage Health Analytics, The Chartis Center for Rural Health, the National Rural Health Association, CareChex, Healthgrades and Medicare star ratings. The team also considered the hospital's community impact and reputation for innovation.
The hospitals featured on the list have been recognized for clinical quality and excellence in care delivery. These hospitals have truly become pillars of their communities, providing access to healthcare for a broad population. SMMC has been similarly recognized by Becker’s for the past four years.
