The Steele Memorial Foundation is proud to offer scholarships to support students from Lemhi and Custer Counties who are pursuing full-time study in an accredited healthcare-related field. This scholarship program reflects the Foundation’s commitment to strengthening the future healthcare workforce in our remote, rural region by reducing financial barriers and supporting local students who aspire to serve their communities.

The scholarship is available to students who are currently enrolled in, or have been accepted into, an accredited healthcare-related program and who will begin healthcare-related coursework no later than the fall semester of the academic year. Eligible fields of study may include, but are not limited to, nursing, radiologic technology, respiratory therapy, physical or occupational therapy, pharmacy, physician assistant studies, pre-medical pathways, healthcare administration, emergency medical services, and other approved healthcare professions.

Scholarship Coverage

  • Tuition and Required Fees: Scholarship funds may be applied toward tuition and eligible required fees and will be paid directly to the academic institution.
  • Award Amount: Each full-time student may receive up to $2,000 per semester for the academic year.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for the Steele Memorial Foundation Healthcare Student Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

Residency

  • Be a current resident of Lemhi County or Custer County, or
  • Be a graduate of a high school or GED program located in Lemhi or Custer County.

Academic Enrollment

  • Be accepted into or enrolled as a full-time student in an accredited healthcare-related program.
  • Begin healthcare-related coursework no later than the upcoming fall semester.

Application Submission

  • Submit a complete application by the specified deadline.

Selection Criteria

Scholarship recipients are selected based on the following factors:

  1. Demonstrated financial need
  2. Academic performance
  3. Alignment and clarity of personal and professional goals
  4. Strength of letters of recommendation
  5. Completeness and professionalism of the application
  6. Commitment to serving rural communities

All applications are reviewed by the Steele Memorial Foundation Scholarship Committee, comprised of members of the Foundation’s Board of Directors. Award recommendations are finalized and approved during a regularly scheduled Foundation Board meeting.

Application Requirements

A complete application must include:

  • Completed application form
  • Program acceptance letter
  • High school transcript and most recent unofficial college transcript (if applicable)
  • Three letters of recommendation (one academic reference and two additional references)
  • Written statement (1–3 pages) responding to the required prompts

Deadline

All completed applications must be received by March 15, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. MST.
Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
