Steele Memorial Medical Center 12th Annual Turkey Trot

The 12th Annual Turkey Trot, hosted by Steele Memorial Medical Center, brought festive energy and community spirit to Salmon on Thanksgiving Day, November 27th. With a fantastic 36-degree start to the morning—ideal for a crisp holiday run—more than 260 registered participants gathered to run, walk, or trot the 5K or 1-mile course.

From babies bundled in strollers to spirited octogenarians setting the pace, participants arrived in turkey-themed gear, bold skirts, and imaginative costumes that filled the morning with color, joy, and unmistakable community pride.

This year’s event kicked off with an energizing warm-up session led by local Zumba instructor Lexi Keller with Step into Fitness, whose upbeat music and high-energy choreography quickly drew an early crowd. Dozens of participants gathered at the starting line to stretch, laugh, and get moving as Lexi guided the group through dynamic routines. Her warm-up transformed the chilly morning into a lively pre-race celebration—helping everyone shake off the cold, build excitement, and start the event with big smiles and even bigger energy.

As participants set out on the course, the morning took on the familiar spirit that has defined this event for 12 years. Families moved together at their own pace, friends matched strides, and participants of all ages embraced the chance to begin the holiday with connection, movement, and shared enthusiasm. The Turkey Trot has grown into a true Thanksgiving tradition in Salmon—one that brings neighbors, families, and visitors together year after year.

Before the morning wrapped up, Steele Memorial Medical Center proudly recognized the top finishers in both the 5K and 1-mile divisions—celebrating standout performances from runners who gave the event an extra spark of friendly competition.

5K Winners
• 1st Place: Challis Gallagher (Salmon)
• 2nd Place: Bryan Herbst (Utah)
• 3rd Place: Samuel Ortega (Salmon)

1-Mile Kids Division Winners
• 1st Place: Brayden Smith (Salmon)
• 2nd Place: Killan Smith (Salmon)
• 3rd Place: Kayden Keller (Salmon)

In a show of holiday generosity that has been part of the Turkey Trot since its earliest days, participants contributed $196, which Steele Memorial Medical Center proudly rounded up to $500. These funds will support the Salmon Senior Center, helping provide warmth, connection, and support to local seniors throughout the holiday season.

After crossing the finish line, many participants lingered to reconnect with friends, and enjoy the relaxed, festive atmosphere that has become a hallmark of the event. Volunteers and staff—some of whom have supported the Turkey Trot for many consecutive years—played an essential role in ensuring the event ran smoothly and remained welcoming for all.

Steele Memorial Medical Center extends heartfelt appreciation to every participant, volunteer, and supporter who contributed to the success of the 12th Annual Turkey Trot. Over the past twelve years, this event has grown into more than a race—it has become a cherished community tradition that celebrates health, gratitude, and the strength of the Salmon community.

Thank you to all who made the 12th Annual Turkey Trot a memorable and meaningful start to Thanksgiving Day!
