Steele Memorial Medical Center Awarded $400,000 Grant from Idaho Elks Rehab to Expand Rehabilitation Services
June 11, 2025
Salmon, ID — Steele Memorial Medical Center (SMMC) is proud to announce it has been awarded a $400,000 grant from Idaho Elks Rehab to support the expansion and enhancement of its rehabilitation department. The funding will be distributed over four years, with $100,000 provided annually and the potential for additional support in the future.
This significant investment will enable SMMC to renovate a new rehabilitation space and purchase advanced therapy equipment to meet the growing demand for therapy services in the community. The expansion will also allow the hospital to grow its free community wellness and education programs, further supporting the long-term health and mobility of local residents.
“This generous support from Idaho Elks Rehab is a tremendous vote of confidence in our work and in the importance of accessible, high-quality rehabilitation services in rural communities,” said Preston Becker, CEO of Steele Memorial Medical Center. “This partnership strengthens our ability to meet growing needs, invest in our future, and continue providing exceptional care close to home.”
Idaho Elks Rehab is the major charitable initiative of the Idaho State Elks Association. The organization supports non-profit rehabilitation providers, educators, and researchers across the state, advancing physical rehab in Idaho through funding for innovative programs, equipment, and provider education.
Steele Memorial Medical Center’s connection to this opportunity began through the late Dave McFarland, a longtime member of the Salmon Elks Lodge #1620 and a dedicated supporter of rural healthcare. Dave worked closely with SMMC over the years to strengthen and expand local rehab services. His vision and efforts, carried forward by his wife Jan McFarland, were instrumental in helping make this grant a reality. The hospital is deeply grateful for their lasting contributions and commitment to improving healthcare in the Salmon community.
Steele Memorial Medical Center is honored to partner with Idaho Elks Rehab to bring this vision to life and extends heartfelt gratitude to the McFarland family and the Salmon Elks Lodge for their unwavering support and belief in this project.
