Steele Memorial Medical Center

Emergency Department

If you feel you are experiencing a life-threatening emergency, please call 9-1-1.

Steele Memorial Medical Center’s Emergency Department provides high-quality, comprehensive emergency care 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Our team is committed to delivering timely, evidence-based treatment for acute illnesses and injuries.

In 2017, Steele Memorial Medical Center achieved the Idaho Time Sensitive Emergency (TSE) Level IV Trauma designation, signifying our capability to provide advanced trauma care, initiate immediate stabilization, and facilitate rapid transfer of critically injured patients to higher-level trauma centers when necessary. This designation, part of Idaho’s statewide TSE system, reflects our adherence to rigorous clinical protocols aimed at improving patient outcomes in time-sensitive emergencies, including trauma, stroke, and cardiac events.

In October 2024, SMMC earned the Level II STEMI Trauma Certification, a distinction recognizing our expertise in the identification and rapid treatment of ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarctions (STEMI)—a severe form of heart attack requiring immediate intervention. This certification affirms our commitment to advanced cardiac care, ensuring timely diagnosis, initiation of life-saving treatments, and expedited coordination with specialized cardiovascular facilities when necessary.

Our Emergency Department is staffed by board-certified physicians and highly trained nurses with extensive experience in emergency medicine and trauma care. Our team maintains advanced certifications, including:

  • ATLS (Advanced Trauma Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nurse Core Course)

For patients requiring a higher level of care, we coordinate seamless transfers via ground or air transport to tertiary medical centers.

Steele Memorial Medical Center provides emergency medical care to all individuals, regardless of their ability to pay.
