What Students Will Learn

Safety Skills
Students are taught how to anticipate and prevent unsafe situations, and how to respond effectively in emergencies such as power outages, severe weather, or intrusions. These foundational skills help young people feel confident and prepared to stay safe in any setting.

Child Care Skills
Students receive age-appropriate instruction in child development and behavior management, including tips for handling challenging situations. They also learn hands-on skills such as diapering and feeding techniques to help them care safely and attentively for infants and young children.

First Aid and CPR Skills (included in every class)
Students are introduced to lifesaving skills including choking rescue and CPR using professional CPR manikins. Instructors also cover basic first aid for common injuries such as cuts, burns, allergic reactions, and nosebleeds. Students learn a straightforward method for assessing and responding to injuries and illnesses in real-world situations.

Life and Business Skills
Students gain tools to become safe and professional caregivers. Lessons cover how to screen babysitting jobs, set expectations with families, discuss payment, and communicate clearly. Role-playing activities allow students to practice interviews, phone calls, and setting boundaries—all skills that prepare them for success now and in the future.

Why Safe Sitter®?

The Safe Sitter® curriculum goes beyond babysitting. It is a comprehensive life-readiness program that emphasizes independence, responsibility, and leadership. The curriculum is medically accurate, developmentally appropriate, and designed to be both fun and educational through interactive activities and hands-on practice.
